It’s been almost a year since I last blogged! Yicks, I guess I have a lot to say but sometimes just struggle with what to write! Nichole Alexandra Photography had a wonderful year in 2012 the best yet, thanks to all my awesome clients! I made some big changes by specializing in High School Seniors, Maternity & Newborns! That was a huge move but the right one for me, I do occasionally do other things during my slow season, but for the most part my focus has been on those three subjects. That choice has made me a better and happier photographer:)
As I reflect on the last 12 months I have to share something that has been on my heart, and is also the reason I love photography. About a year ago I lost my mother, then less than 2 months later I lost someone who was not only like a mother to me but one of my best friends. I have never lost anyone close to me, before this I had only been to one funeral my whole life to support a friend. So this was something so completely new to me. Death is awful, losing a loved one just plain sucks! The pain, the mourning, suffering in silence while the rest of the world moves on. There’s no way to really describe it unless you have been through it. But I can tell you one thing, those precious pictures I had became everything to me. When all I had left were memories, being able to look at a smile or moment we had together brought the comfort I needed.
I love that photography, beautiful images give back way more than you could have ever expected. So when the question arises of why should you have portraits made, why should you take pictures and make that a priority? The answer is Because You Can! I’m not saying go run out, go into debt and hire the most expensive photographer you can, I don’t care if you go in your back yard with your iphone. Just DO IT! Actually what I always recommend is to hire the best photographer you can afford, and yes for a special occasion memory or every few years when your family is really changing splurge/save up and hire someone over the top! You won’t regret it čÖé But for all those in between times just do it, take the time to document the ones you love, and mom’s that means you need to be in the pictures too! If you have someone who loves you, savor it, grab a hold of it and capture it. Life changes so quickly. Children grow up, people die, relationships change. But when they do and all you have left is that memory, it is absolutely amazing to be able to get lost in a picture that takes you back to that time. Here are some of my favorite images from the last 12 months. My hope for each one is that one day my clients will look at these and if even for a moment be taken back to the feelings they had with the ones they love!
The 1st one is my family portrait from last year by the amazing Heather Byrd! Words can’t express how much I LOVE this picture, or how much it means to me. Each one of these tells a story to me. A dad playing airplane w/ his little boy. Little brother curious about his 1st sibling in his mama’s belly. 1st time parents madly in love and thrilled about what they created! A sweet newborn being able to wear a gown passed down for generations. A young engaged couple, silly & sweet full of life čÖé A High School senior with her parents the last family portrait as a “child” before she’s off to college to grow up. All of them so priceless!

First of all I want to say thank you to all my wonderful clients I had no idea!!! As in I had no idea how stressful it can be to plan your own session! Last year I came across the amazing talent of Kristen Weaver of Kristen Weaver Photography based out of Orlando, FL and instantly fell in love with her work. After a quick inquiry I decided to hire her to come shoot a couple session for me and my husband’s 10th anniversary, and since she was already coming out I got her to do a family session as well! So you are talking about alot of outfits to pick out!

After months of shopping, checking out locations and going to the gym the day had finally come. It almost felt like I was getting ready for my wedding with all the anticipation. I lost a total of 77 pounds for the pictures, found the perfect feathered hair piece and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Kristen was awesome and I highly recommend her if you have an up coming wedding. I guess I shouldn’t be recommending other photographers but I just love our pictures that much, LOL Enjoy some of my favorites;)

Hello sweet October, aren’t you so excited? I know I am:) I have so much planned into these next few months I can hardly stand my excitement. Especially since moving to Charleston and all the fun fall activities they have going on here, plus I am a total pumpkin fanatic!!! It started with my first pregnancy and has never left me. I completely LOVE anything pumpkin, bread, pie, cheesecake, muffins, lattes, you name it’s all so yummy!

As the fall approaches, so does the end of the year which really makes me reflect. I have to admit now that I have really struggled with my blog, making time to write and figuring out what to write in it is a battle sometimes. So thank you all my faithful blog readers, thank you for reading, and writing me, I truly LOVE hearing from you! Lately I have been really bored not as in I have nothing to do, cause with a family, a business, and 2 very busy boys my plate is very full but personally. I have been just itching to do something new, creative, or different. SO, I have decided to start a new project I don’t have a creative name for it just yet, and I’m sure it’s been done before but I want to create a blog spotlight of extraordinary people who live among us! So once, a month or depending on how many I get I want to feature REAL people, with REAL stories right here! Along with lots of pretty pictures of course, it is still a photography blog right, LOL.

So, here’s the deal. If you have an amazing story about your ┬álife, a miracle, a way that God had rescued you in a mighty way than I want to hear from YOU!!! Come spend an afternoon in beautiful Charleston, let me give you a FREE session, and write YOUR story! I believe we all have a story, so if you’re brave enough to share it on here, to bare your soul, to tell people how you have hurt, and how you have healed than I want to help you share it and document it:) I originally wanted to do this for teens/youth, but now I want to hear from anyone young old and in-between……………… SO, my dear if you’re still reading this and interested shoot me an e-mail with your info, and why you want your story to be told:) Can’t wait to hear from y’all……………………..nichole

PS Is that little girl not the cutest thing ever? Taken from her one year session:)

If you are reading this welcome to my all new blog! I am so excited to reveal Nichole Alexandra Photography’s all new logo & new fresh look. This has been been 8 months in the making, and has been well worth the wait! I just love it, and am so excited about the direction NA Photography is going in! A huge thank you to Luxecetera design boutique for their amazing work! The process of branding was a huge job, I feel so fortunate to have had such a great team of ┬ádesigners. I specifically got to work with the very talented Ashley! She was completely awesome, and so great to work with. At the beginning I didn’t know exactly what I wanted it all took look like, so poor Ashley not only had to be designer but a mind reader as ┬áI have just loved every piece she designed for me, so the end result is something I am so excited about!

My second big news is NA Photography is relocating to the Charleston area, yes we’re moving!!! I don’t think I have ever been so excited to move in my life:) This has been a dream of my husband’s and I since we were dating, and an awesome opportunity as come our way to go there. We are just tickled and so completely blessed that God has given us this dream! Don’t worry though I will still be coming down to the Columbia area for sessions, but now you can come visit me in fabulous Charleston to do your beach sessions! čÖé

Can I say that sometimes I just love my job so much, I could just pinch myself! Well this was for sure one of those times! For the March Issue of Reach Out Columbia I had the privilege to shoot their cover story. This month’s article not only is fabulous but it is very near and dear to my heart! Growing up in foster care I can relate to some of the hardships these children face, and strongly believe that places like the Jubilee Academy can save a child’s life!

The article is about Columbia, South Carolina’s very own Blind Side story. Sandee Hensley founded Heartworks Ministry, an after school program for inner-city children, as well as Jubilee Academy which provides a safe, nurturing, Christian environment for inner city children. During her many years of ┬áministry God put in her path a young man named Todd McClintock. Through her years of dedication and mentoring she was able to help direct Todd who was recruited to SC very own Clemson ┬áUniversity! Since graduating from Clemson Todd McClintock is back in Columbia, and has joined the staff of Jubilee Academy as assistant head master! WOW, isn’t that just amazing…… I love to see how God works things in full circle. If you are in the Columbia area hurry and go grab yourself a magazine so you can read the rest of this amazing story!

And let me tell you, the day I visited Jubilee Academy for the shoot was such a wonderful experience. It was such a happy, and inviting place. And these children are absolutely darling, you would never have known you were walking into a school for inner city children who have come from backgrounds filled with gangs, drugs, abuse, sex and crime.
